The musical is written by the comedy group SpitLip, featuring David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zo? Roberts. The show is directed by Robert Hastie and choreographed by Jenny Arnold.
Casting for Broadway will be announced at a later date.
Described as “equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper,” the show is set in 1943 when the Allied Forces are close to losing, but dream up a covert operation involving a stolen corpse that changes the fate of WWII. A 2021 film starring Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen followed a similar plot, based on the book Operation Mincemeat by Ben Macintyre.
The musical started as a small production at London’s New Diorama Theatre and gained momentum at other playhouses, before premiering in London’s West End in May 9, 2023 at the Fortune Theatre, where it is still running.
Operation Mincemeat was nominated for six 2024 Olivier Award nominations, winning best new musical and best actor in a supporting role in a musical. The show is produced on Broadway by Avalon (in association with SpitLip).
