Olympic Figure Skating Exhibition Gala Spotlights K-Pop With Performances to BIGBANG, BTS, Red Velvet & 2NE1
Ahead of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic closing ceremony and its K-pop-packed lineup, figure skaters from around the world gave audiences a show to watch with performances featuring songs from some of Korea’s most popular idol groups.
Beginning with a performance from the South Korean ice dancing team Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin featuring the music of BIGBANG and 2NE1’s 2009 LG-ad “Lollipop,” the figure skating exhibition gala included two other K-pop inspired routines from South Korean and Uzbek skaters.

Kim Kyueun and Alex Kang Chan Kam, paired figure skaters representing South Korea, put on a festive performance featuring both 2NE1’s “I Am the Best” and Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor,” filling their routine with fun moments — including a reference to Kam’s sunglasses on sunglasses meme — and official choreography from the original dance routines of the songs.
Misha Ge from Uzbekistan performed to “Mic Drop (Remix)” by BTS and Steve Aoki featuring Desiigner; he began by wearing a boxing warm-up robe and gloves and eventually stripped down to a see-through shirt for a hip-hop inspired routine.
The Winter Games’ exhibition galas are regularly a chance for athletes to showcase programs that are more fun and personal than their official competition ones.
Other skaters performed to music from the likes of Beyonce, Billy Joel, Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa, and even North Korean pop music. The event ended with all the featured skaters performing to a song from The Great Showman soundtrack. The athletes greeted the crowd and took their final bows to a backtrack of TWICE‘s “Likey.”
