Anthony Michael Hall made the most of his 56th birthday!

The actor, who stars in the new Netflix movie Trigger Warning, reveals to PEOPLE in this week's issue how his last memorable fan interaction led to an impromptu birthday dinner with his costars from The Breakfast Club.

Hall says it was an “embarrassment of riches” when he held a signing at Comic-Con on his birthday in April, sharing, “I had three birthday cakes [from fans]. I was like, ‘I should do more signings on my birthday.’”

It wasn't the only sweet treats that made Hall’s birthday so special, he also celebrated his big day by reuniting with Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson from The Breakfast Club.

“Judd, Molly and her husband and some other friends went to dinner after the signing,” he says. “It turned out to be really fun.”

Hall says he went against tradition and paid for the whole table despite it being his birthday. He teases, “You know what? I like keeping people on their toes.”

“It was actually really great, but it was cool to see Molly and we're sharing pictures of our kids," says Hall, who shares Michael Anthony Hall II, 13 months, with wife Lucia Oskerova.

“Judd is still John Bender,” he adds. “He's an original. He really is. I love that. He's like part Hunter Thompson part…He's got so many varied interests. He's really a brilliant guy. I mean, he's actually really super, super smart.”

Hall shares a few more of his "lasts" below.

Last Time I Was Starstruck

While shooting Community on the Paramount lot, I snuck over to watch Clint Eastwood film J. Edgar. After about 10 minutes of spying on him, I got busted and kicked out. It sounds more serious than it was, but it was funny.

Last Time I Cringed

Whenever I pop up on TV. It’s just kind of weird, like looking at photos in your yearbook. I went through puberty literally on film in the early ’80s; that was painful enough.

Last Moment of Gratitude

My wife and son and I were coming back from Toronto, and it was hectic. I had five bags and our dog with us, but just being with them . . . Not to sound cheesy, but I waited a long time, and when you create a family, it’s the most beautiful thing.
