In the new season, the main trio (Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez) take a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles when a movie studio wants to turn their podcast into a film, while also trying to solve the murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), the former stunt double of Martin’s character.
The cast for Season 4 also includes: Meryl Streep, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon.
Martin co-created “Only Murders in the Building” with John Hoffman. Both serve as executive producers along with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal. Hoffman also serves as showrunner. 20th Television is the studio.
The show has been popular with critics and audiences alike since it first debuted. Most recently, Season 3 received 21 Emmy nominations, including nods for Martin, Short, and Gomez for outstanding lead actor & actress in a comedy series.
All four seasons have averaged a 97% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In her review of Season 4 for Variety, Alison Herman wrote, “In keeping with the show’s rising profile (Meryl Streep is just a part of the cast now!) and escalating absurdity, this latest batch of suspects have even bigger personalities and more famous faces than the co-op committee members we’re used to.”
