‘Only Murders in the Building’ Renewed for Season 5

Looks like there’s going to be another murder at the Arconia.

Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for season five as season four is dropping weekly episodes on Hulu every Tuesday, leading up to the finale on Oct. 29.

The Emmy-winning series’ fifth installment will have 10 episodes, as previous seasons have.

In addition to Steve Martin’s Charles Hayden-Savage, Selena Gomez’s Mabel Mora and Martin Short’s Oliver Putnam, the fourth season features the show’s starriest cast yet. Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin, who was introduced in season three, returns for the batch of new episodes, as does Jane Lynch’s Sazz Pataki — the season four murder victim. The women are joined by newcomers Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.

Only Murders in the Building season three received 21 Emmy nominations, the most for the series to date. The show has consistently received positive reviews. Its most recent installment has a 97 percent on Rotton Tomatoes.

In addition to starring in the show, Martin also co-created and co-writes it with John Hoffman. The men also serve as executive producers alongside Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.

Season four follows the trio as they investigate the murder of Charles’ longtime friend and stunt double, Sazz, who was shot in his kitchen at the end of season three. When this season kicked off, however, her body was no longer there and neither was whatever she was writing on the floor in her own blood.

A release date hasn’t been announced for season five yet, but if the show remains consistent, it should premiere sometime next summer.
