Here are ‘Only Murders in the Building’s’ Season 4 acting submissions for the winter awards (Exclusive)
“Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 was packed with guest stars — and most of them will be submitted for winter awards consideration, Gold Derby has learned exclusively.
Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez will enter in lead as usual at the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards. The Hulu comedy will submit Michael Cyril Creighton (the show’s only other credited series regular), Zach Galifianakis, Richard Kind, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Paul Rudd in supporting actor at both shows. In supporting actress, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Melissa McCarthy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Molly Shannon, and Meryl Streep will be entered.

At the SAG Awards, which doesn’t split between lead and supporting, Martin and Short will be the sole male submissions in comedy actor. Gomez will be submitted in comedy actress along with Longoria, Shannon, and Streep.
Martin, Short, and Gomez are the only actors who appeared in all 10 episodes of the fourth season. Creighton, Galifianakis, Kind, Nanjiani, and Shannon were in seven episodes. Levy and Longoria were in six. Rudd and Lynch were in five. Randolph was in four, Streep was in three, and McCarthy was in one.

At the Emmys next year, Randolph, Streep, and McCarthy will be eligible in guest, but the others outside of the core trio will have to submit in supporting as they appeared in at least half of the 10-episode season. For Season 3, Randolph was Emmy-nominated in guest while Streep and Rudd received supporting bids.
The Globes, Critics Choice, and SAG Awards do not have guest categories, though Critics Choice used to have gender-neutral ones until 2016. The Globes stipulate that a performer must appear in at least 5 percent of total program time of all episodes to be eligible in supporting. There is no episode minimum requirement for individual categories at the SAG Awards. And despite being submitted in the individual category at SAG, Streep won’t be eligible for the comedy ensemble prize should “Only Murders” get nominated. Per SAG-AFTRA rules, a performer with a guest star billing, as Streep has, must be in a majority of the season’s episodes (51 percent, so six of 10 episodes in this case).
