Orlando Bloom on his helicopter proposal to Katy Perry: Where can you 'do this privately?'

Celebrities can face challenges when seeking a private moment – but they often have options that average people don't.

Take Orlando Bloom and his much-talked-about helicopter marriage proposal to Katy Perry.

"Part of that was just to be able to do it without anyone around. Where are you going to get to do this privately? Oh, that's a good idea," he says of the whirlybird gambit in a clip from an interview with Willie Geist that will be broadcast on NBC's "Sunday Today."

That sort of bold move plays well with superstar singer Perry, says Bloom, who stars in Amazon's fantasy series "Carnival Row" (Aug. 30).

"She loves a big moment," he says, while adding he's focused on "trying to get her to wrestle into the small moments. The cool thing about what we're doing, we're learning to do the small together. I think we're both fully aware that it's a mountain to climb and that that mountain won't stop in terms of a relationship, because I think that's what it is. I love to evolve and fortunately, she does too."

He wants to be on the same page with Perry as they move ahead with their life together.

"It's important to me that we are aligned. I've been married and divorced and I don't want do it again," he says, referring to his three-year marriage to supermodel Miranda Kerr, which ended in 2013. Perry is "remarkable and so I'm always so impressed with that and I'm encouraged."
