Other Models ‘Complaining’ Kylie Jenner ‘Didn’t Deserve’ to Walk Runway at Paris Fashion Week
Kylie Jenner made a triumphant debut on the Paris Fashion Week catwalk closing out the Coperni Show, but the claws were out behind her back as models closed ranks and began bitching up a storm, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.
“Kylie feels like she killed it, and in fairness she got great reviews, but the venom was flying backstage,” the source says. “The general feeling among the other models was that she didn’t deserve to be there, that it was just an attention grab by the brand because of her name and following.”
Billionaire lifestyle brand owner and influencer Kylie, 27, donned a strapless black ball gown and minimal makeup befitting a fairy tale princess as she strutted down the runway in front of Disney Paris’ Sleeping Beauty Castle. The Kardashians star was also supported by her mom and manager, Kris Jenner, who shared a video of her daughter at the event.
While Kylie is no stranger to the catwalk, having modeled for many designers including her former brother-in-law’s Yeezus line and making her first runway debut in September 2011, many professional models felt she hadn’t earned her stripes in the industry before being put front and center during some of the biggest shows of the year, stealing the spotlight and attention away from girls who exclusively make the catwalk their craft.
“Models are notoriously catty,” the source continues, “but they’re especially vicious when it comes to influencers and reality stars getting spots on the runway, because they feel like it’s taking away their jobs and lowering the standards for the industry overall.”
“It’s something that’s a huge sore point so it’s not a big surprise that they were far from happy to have Kylie there. And the fact that she got to close out the show just added to the bitterness, since that’s such a prestigious spot that gets the most attention.”
“All kinds of nasty things were being said, including that she doesn’t look like a model and could never cut it for real.”
The Kardashian family pushed Kylie’s taller and older sister, Kendall Jenner, 28, toward modeling first, snagging runway spots during New York, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks when she was just a teenager.
To no surprise, momager Kris had played a big role helping Kendall break into the modeling industry, too. Kendall first signed with Wilhelmina Models at just 13 years old, after her mom spent days phoning different agencies to nab her the “best agency possible.”
It didn’t hurt that the whole family had already become household names through their reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which was in its third season at the time. The big break Kendall and Kylie got from her famous family isn’t lost on the other models, either.
“There’s already a lot of anger that her sister Kendall was pushed as this big model, so to have Kylie now trying to horn her way into the industry is infuriating for a lot of these girls who’ve been working at it since they were 14 years old.”
“They were all complaining and saying she’s just a trashy Kardashian that didn’t deserve to be there.”
