‘Outer Banks’ to End With Season 5 at Netflix
The Pogues of Outer Banks have one more adventure left.
Netflix and the show’s creators announced that the show has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The news comes a few days before the second half of season four debuts on the streamer; the final five episodes are set to bow on Nov. 7.

“In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time. From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship,” series creators Shannon Burke, Josh Pate and Jonas Pate wrote Monday in a letter addressed to “all Pogues.”
“At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still chopping away,” the letter continues. “… Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting season four behind us, and are turning to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet.”
Writing on the final season has begun, but production and premiere dates are still to be determined.
At an event celebrating the show in Los Angeles over the weekend, star Chase Stokes praised the bond the cast has formed over five years and four seasons: “There’s a level of trust that you have with the people around you to know that they’re going to show up and do their job as well,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve been that way for the last five years and it’s never changed.”
Outer Banks has been a consistent hit for Netflix in its four seasons so far. The first half of season four, which premiered Oct. 10, debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s English-language TV charts and remained in the top 10 for the next two weeks. Seasons two and three were among the most-watched original streaming series of 2021 and 2023 in the United States, according to Nielsen’s year-end rankings.
Along with Stokes, Outer Banks stars Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane, Pollyanna McIntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, Mia Challis and Cullen Moss. Burke and the Pate brothers executive produce.
