OUTnorthLa Film Festival opens this weekend. Check out this year's lineup, featured events
With a mission to recognize the important contributions that people of underrepresented gender and sexual identities have made to culture and history, the OUTnorthLa Film Festival is set for its 13th annual festival at the Robinson Film Center.
The PACE Northwest’s festival features LGBTQ+ themed documentaries and feature films with question-and-answer events and a reception on Saturday night.
"We are honored to once again partner with PACE as the hosting site for OUTnorthLa," said Executive Director of the Robinson Film Center Wendell Riley, "These carefully selected films will help us acknowledge, understand, and celebrate the challenges, triumphs and diversity within the LGBTQ+ communities."
"OUTnorthLA offers a diverse range of films," said Gary McCollister, Co Chair of OUTnorthLa, "It offers a portrayal of different segments of the LGBQT+ community."
Tickets to the opening reception at 6 p.m., Sat., Sept. 7, are $10 and can be purchased through the film festival website, OUTnorthLa.org.

Here are some highlights of opening weekend:
6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6: American Parent will screen opening night with filmmakers Emily Railsback and Caroline Posse conducting a Q&A afterward. The everyday chaos of raising a toddler is intensified for a lesbian couple as they maneuver through the pandemic and professional uncertainty.
6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7: A reception in the event space at the Robinson Film Center features heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $10. Buy tickets at www.OUTnorthLa.org
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7: Our Son will screen following the reception. The all-star cast includes Billy Porter, Luke Evans, Andrew Rannells, and Phylicia Rashad. Nicky (Luke Evans), a book publisher devoted to his work, lives with his husband Gabriel (Billy Porter), a former actor and stay-at-home dad, and their 8-year-old son, Owen. Gabriel loves Owen more than anything; Nicky loves Gabriel more than anything. Despite appearances, Gabriel has been dissatisfied with their marriage for some time and files for divorce, leading to a custody battle that forces both of them to confront the changing reality of their love for each other and for their son.
3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8: Kiss Me Kosher followed by a Q&A. A subversive love story between clashing cultures and families. Kiss Me Kosher is a romantic misadventure crossing all borders. When two generations of Israeli women fall for a German woman and a Palestinian man, chaos follows.
The other films showing throughout the week are: Lesvia, The People’s Joker, National Anthem, Summer Qamp, and the Throwback Thursday film The Birdcage.
