Pamela Anderson embraces the barefaced look on The Drew Barrymore Show
On the Oct. 22 tapping of The Drew Barrymore Show, Pamela Anderson appeared on the sofa barefaced alongside host Drew Barrymore and series regular Valerie Bertinelli—both women were also makeup-fee.
When asked by Barrymore, Anderson cited her attendance at Paris Fashion Week in 2023 as the first time she appeared barefaced at a camera-heavy event.
“I decided I was just going to a fashion show, I didn’t need to compete with anybody,” said Anderson on The Drew Barrymore Show. “Why do I need to waste three hours in a makeup chair?”
Following the event, Anderson entered an era of self-reflection. During this time she bought and renovated her grandmother’s property and spent a great deal of time in her garden.
“I started planting things and getting into nature and going back to the trees that knew me since birth,” said Anderson.
Since going barefaced regularly, Anderson considers this “the best time in [her] life,” and she finally feels empowered and excited about life again.
In a surprising act of solidarity mid-show, Barrymore removed her clip-in hair extensions and opened up about how dealing with the symptoms of perimenopause affects the way she sees herself.
Pamela Anderson on going makeup-free at Paris Fashion Week
In 2023, Anderson surprised the media and fans by appearing in paparazzi photos from Paris Fashion Week without makeup.
“An adventure in Paris with fresh eyes. There is beauty in self-acceptance, imperfection and love,” Anderson wrote in an Instagram post about her time spent barefaced in Paris.
During her interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Anderson revealed that she initially ditched time in the makeup chair hoping to separate herself from the characters she portrayed throughout her career.
“I started realizing I feel great, as me,” Anderson said. “And I don’t want people to think of me as the other kind of cartoon characters I created for protection.”
Anderson striking out makeup-free was noticed and championed by actress Jamie Lee Curtis who took to Instagram saying, “The natural beauty revolution has officially begun.”
“[Anderson] showed up and claimed her seat at the table with nothing on her face,” wrote Curtis. “I am so impressed and floored by this act of courage and rebellion.”
Celebrities embracing the barefaced look at events
Anderson might be the most recent celebrity to be interviewed on going makeup-free, but the 57-year-old actress is far from the only famous female to depart from the beauty standard.
Jennifer Garner, Emma Thompson, Salma Hayek and Alicia Keys are among the well-known names of women who went bold and barefaced on their social media or at live events.
Some celebrities have even appeared on stage to perform with no makeup. Take Lady Gaga for example.
At the 2023 Oscars, Lady Gaga went barefaced—despite walking the carpet earlier in the evening with full glam—to perform "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick. Watch the full performance in all its makeup-free glory.
