Pamela Anderson knew about Harvey Weinstein's reputation but says accusers should have used “common sense”
Pamela Anderson sat down with Megyn Kelly to open up about Harvey Weinstein and his history of alleged sexual assault.
Anderson explained her encounter with Weinstein to Kelly. According to Anderson, as an avid animal activist she wanted to confirm that a film in which she was set to have a ghost dog as a sidekick would not use an actual animal, which seems like a reasonable request. Then Weinstein reached out about her request. She said of that encounter, “He is very intimidating.” She continued, “He called me, you little da, da, da. If you don’t do this, you’re never working in this town again. This whole thing. I was like, never in my life have I been talked to that way.”
When asked if she was surprised by the allegations against Weinstein, Anderson said: “No. It was common knowledge. Certain people in Hollywood are people to avoid, privately. You know what you’re getting into if you go to a hotel room alone.”
As an admitted victim of sexual abuse herself, before coming to Hollywood, Anderson had the knowledge to avoid these potentially dangerous encounters. However, unlike other celebrities who have spoken out, Anderson seems to think that some accusers were foolish or naive and should have seen Weinstein’s behavior coming.
Megyn Kelly mentioned to Anderson that a lot of the accusers felt that meetings with Weinstein were legitimate since they were set up by their agents who they thought wouldn’t put them in a dangerous position. Anderson replied bluntly, “Go with them. That’s what [the agents] should have done. Sent somebody with them. I think there are easy ways to remedy that. It’s not a good excuse.”
Earlier in the interview, Anderson explained that she was faced with shady meetings too: “When I came to Hollywood, of course, I’ve had a lot of offers to do private auditions and things that made absolutely no sense. Just common sense. Don’t go into a hotel room alone. Don’t — someone answers the door in a bathrobe, leave, you know. Things that are common sense.”
