Paramount Execs Have Marvel Sized Dreams for Sonic Franchise
Paramount execs have Marvel-sized dreams for the Sonic franchise, the executive producer behind the upcoming Knuckles series revealed in a new interview.
Ready to zoom onto Paramount+ later this month, Knuckles follows the titular character on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé, teaching him the ways of the Echidna warrior.
Knuckles takes place between the events of the 2022 film Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will hit theaters at the end of this year.
In a recent interview with Paste Magazine, Toby Ascher, franchise and executive producer, shares the ambitions for the newly birthed franchise.
"...the Sonic franchise on the movie side is going to be these Avengers-level events," Ascher says. "They're going to be these big, exciting stories that have a lot of different characters."
He also explained to them the motive behind the Knuckles series, "what television did for us is it gave us time to go into some of the more supporting characters in depth and really build them out in cool ways."
Knuckles is coming to Paramount+ on April 27, eight months ahead of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, giving audiences plenty of time to catch up on the franchise so far.
Idris Elba will voice the titular role in the series, joined by Adam Pally, who will star as Wade Whipple.
The series will be made up of six episodes.
