The Parkland student activists speak out on 'Ellen,' and they're seriously inspiring

Three of the survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show and shared their experience turning the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School into a moment of change.

Each of them remembered a friend who was killed in the shooting, including Jaclyn Corin, who organized a large protest at the Florida state Capitol.

Emma Gonzalez gave a speech shortly after the shooting, and it quickly went viral. In it, she started a chant, “We call BS,” when addressing the supposed roadblocks to gun control reform. She told Ellen DeGeneres, “I knew that I would get my job done properly if I got them chanting something, and I thought, ‘We call BS has four syllables. That’s good. I’ll use that.’”

Gonzalez went on to explain that the group wants to increase regulation of semiautomatic weapons and accessories, such as bump stocks, that can easily turn semiautomatic weapons into fully automatic weapons, which are banned.

Cameron Kasky, who challenged Sen. Marco Rubio to enact stricter gun regulation in a CNN town hall, addressed the insulting theory that he and the other students turned activists are paid actors. He said that he’s been in school drama productions and continued, “If you’ve seen those, you know I’m not somebody who deserves any money for acting.”
