Parkland students create a Twitter storm after Trump says 'NO WAY' on repealing the 2nd Amendment
President Trump got advocates of gun-law reform heated up this week with one strong early-morning tweet. The president is not in favor of touching the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which confers on U.S. citizens the right to “keep and bear arms.”
THE SECOND AMENDMENT WILL NEVER BE REPEALED! As much as Democrats would like to see this happen, and despite the words yesterday of former Supreme Court Justice Stevens, NO WAY. We need more Republicans in 2018 and must ALWAYS hold the Supreme Court!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 28, 2018
In his statement, Trump referred to an op-ed in the New York Times titled John Paul Stevens: Repeal the Second Amendment. The retired conservative Supreme Court Justice explained why he thought the Constitution should be changed to include more gun restrictions in America.
This clearly did not sit well with the president, and Trump’s response equally rubbed supporters of gun-law reform the wrong way. In response, several of the Parkland shooting victims tweeted back at the president, trolling his gun stance.
Maybe if @realDonaldTrump actually came to Parkland to have a conversation with us he would understand that WE DO NOT WANT TO REPEAL THE SECOND AMENDMENT. Man, and they say millennials like to complain. #NeverAgain #MarchForOurLives https://t.co/QkWB3DQOqM

Trump really really really goofed.
Like, he has no idea how hard he goofed by pretending the millions of Americans who demanded change wanted a repeal of the second amendment.
He’s hiding, scared, and fragile. We’ll show him we’re boss in the midterms.

To clarify, #MarchForOurLives is not for the repeal of the Second Amendment. https://t.co/0ybz9JEB8y

Of course, there were many who agreed with Trump’s tweet. They too voiced their opinions on the gun-control debate on Twitter. Among them were the NRA, which applauded the president’s strong stance.
In response to the former Supreme Court Justice's outlandish op-ed yesterday, @realDonaldTrump vowed that The Second Amendment Will Never Be Repealed’ https://t.co/mOXkuy43da

This morning President Trump was very clear that despite calls by Democrats to repeal the Second Amendment, it will NEVER happen! pic.twitter.com/BZlGyHMJgv

Gun control lobby this morning:
1) Armed guards are not a deterrent to further loss of life
2) We want to repeal the Second Amendment

If you value your Second Amendment, you had better get on board supporting Donald Trump. He must be elected in 2020! And must appoint another Supreme Court Justice in his term. @realDonaldTrump

As with any good argument, there were also more moderate voices insisting that America can have its cake and eat it too: gun reform without repealing the Second Amendment.
Fun fact about me: I support the second amendment.
But I also support gun regulation.
Surprise folks, it’s possible to do both.— Sam Fuentes (@funkpuncher) March 28, 2018
We don’t want to repeal the second amendment. Let me say it one more time: we don’t want to repeal the second amendment. I don’t understand why gun control always equates to a total gun ban. It stops the conversation about this issue. https://t.co/uNCzda17H1

No one ever said they want the second amendment to be repealed. More than just democrats agree with gun control legislation, because this is about stopping people from being murdered. You constantly change your agenda and your views. You're a bad joke of a president https://t.co/3Om2c32Zx7
