PARTYNEXTDOOR Declares Himself The King Of R&B
The infamous King Of R&B debate has resurfaced, thanks to PARTYNEXTDOOR and DJ Akademiks.
The two men recently appeared in a video together where the latter addressed PND as the “GOAT” and “King of R&B” and he didn’t disagree in the slightest.
“Yeah, what the f**k are you even talking about? You ain’t makin’ no money, ain’t makin’ nobody money. I put your ex on; I put everybody on. Can’t make a b***h famous for nothing. If it’s not a sex tape, you can’t do s**t homie.” Akademiks chimed in, expressing, “I’m tryna get Party not to be too humble.”
As the video began to circulate, fans completely disagreed. Many still declared that Usher holds the title as King Of R&B, while others rallied behind Chris Brown and R. Kelly.
“He not even the Prince of R&B,” someone commented, referring to the Canadian crooner. Another tweeted, “I love Partynextdoor. I really really do!!!! But bro cannot sing live for shhhhhhhiiiiiiiiitttttt…live performances are his Achilles Heel.” Elsewhere, one person tweeted, “The what of what? Yeaaaa okay.”

The debate regarding who takes the crown has been in wavering circulation for years, especially since Jacquees attempted to claim the throne back in 2018. In doing so, everyone from Tyrese to J. Holiday and Tank inserted their two cents on the matter.
The “Sweet Lady” singer stated, “Ima keep it stack with you. The young kings of this generation that’s been running sh*t since day one are Chris Brown and Trey Songz […] Stop trolling, my ni**a. Get back in the booth.”
Tank added, “First, R. Kelly is the King of R&B. The accusations don’t disqualify what he’s accomplished. Second, if you can’t go in the studio by yourself and make a hit record, you’re not my king. If you can’t sing it better live, you’re not my king. I appreciate all the talent out there, but we are using the word ‘king’ too loosely.”
J. Holiday said it was Michael Jackson and then, R. Kelly.
In 2022, Babyface broke down what it really means to say you’re the “King of R&B,” explaining to Bevy Smith, “It’s interesting when you say ‘King,’ what makes you King? Is it how many hits that you have or is it how many people that you’ve touched? How many people that you give that feeling to that when they think of home, they think of R&B?” he questioned. “R&B is a really hard one to figure out the King of.”
Meanwhile, Usher told VIBE in 2023, if fans are giving him the title of King of R&B, he’s “taking it [and] owning it.”
