Patti LaBelle is open to dating again at age 78, says she's 'too good to be solo'
Patti Labelle is ready to prove you can find new love at any age.
The R&B icon revealed on "The Jennifer Hudson Show" Wednesday that she's open to dating again at the age of 78.
"Well sorta, kinda," LaBelle said, when Hudson asked if she was open to dating. "How old am I? 78."
Labelle married schoolteacher Armstead Edwards in 1969. The two finalized their divorce in 2003.
"I was married for 32 years to a wonderful man, and we're still friends, good friends," she said. "And so I think in life I need to find happiness for myself, other than what I had back in the day with him, which was wonderful. But I'm too good to be solo."
So will LaBelle be swiping on dating apps any time soon, Hudson asked.
"What's that?" LaBelle replied, to laughter from the audience. "OK, what are dating apps?"
When Hudson explained the concept to her, LaBelle seemed skeptical.
"Oh, that stuff," she said. "I've seen that commercial."
And who are LaBelle's potential suitors? That's a secret.

"I do have a nice person in mind," she said, declining to reveal the person's name. "I really do, but that's my personal business."
LaBelle's changed her tune on dating since 2021, when she told People she was content staying single.
"I'm just living my life like it's platinum," she said at the time. "Thank God I have a lot of people who care for me. ... I live alone with my dog, Mr. Cuddles, and I'm looking for love from everybody. I am."
