Paul Ryan Laughs at Donald Trump’s Immigration Plan
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was on 60 Minutes Sunday for a special sit-down interview with Scott Pelley. Pelley brought up Donald Trump’s plan to deport 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S. The American Action Network, a group founded by conservatives, estimates that it could cost as much as $600 billion to deport 11 million people.
Pelley said, “I take it you don’t advocate rounding up 11 million illegal immigrants and deporting them.” Ryan laughed before answering, “I do not.” Pressing for more, Pelley asked, “That’s not going to happen while you’re speaker of the House?” “I can’t imagine how it could happen,” Ryan replied. “So, no.”
The speaker explained what he would do when it comes to immigration. “I think it starts with border enforcement. I think it starts with enforcing the rule of law. You need to have a vibrant legal immigration system. Legal immigration is America. My name is Ryan. … I think you should have a pathway to legal status. That’s what I’ve proposed in the past.”
