Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson help honor Simon Cowell on 'AGT' for his Walk of Fame star
America’s Got Talent took time on Wednesday’s results show to celebrate judge and executive producer Simon Cowell’s recent star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The video tribute featured stars like Camila Cabello and One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson commenting on what Cowell has meant to them.
“He’s just been an incredible mentor and has offered a lot of guidance,” Cabello said.
“I think Simon deserves a star on the Walk of Fame because his impact in music is unquestionable, really,” Tomlinson said.
But the tribute went back further, to the era when most Americans first met Cowell — the American Idol years.
It started with footage from Cowell’s star ceremony, where Season 1 Idol winner Kelly Clarkson said a few words about her career launching 16 years ago. And then Cowell’s original co-judges, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, chimed in.
“Simon’s secret to success? It’s because he’s always right. Just ask him,” Abdul joked. “He’s probably the best reality judge there’s ever been,” Jackson said.
Along with helping launch the American Idol craze in the states, Cowell has served as judge and producer of countless talent shows, both here and across the pond, like X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. And some of the stars he’s uncovered along the way are certainly unforgettable. Like singer Susan Boyle.
“Simon Cowell has changed my life,” Boyle said in the tribute. “I couldn’t thank him enough.”
