Paula Patton and Robin Thicke’s Legal Battle Heats Up Amid Abuse Allegations
Just when you thought that Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s divorce couldn’t get any uglier, it did. A judge has reportedly granted Patton her request for a restraining order against Thicke as well as temporary sole custody of their 6-year-old son, Julian. Patton has accused Thicke of physically assaulting her, and she has said that he “has a history of domestic violence. … [He] kicked, pushed, and hit [her] with an open fist.”
A source close to Thicke is denying all accusations of abuse, saying, “If these multiyear-old allegations were true, why is she only raising them now in the midst of a custody dispute… .” However, earlier this month, their 6-year-old son’s school called the Department of Children and Family Services after the boy made comments about the way his father “hits and punishes him in private.” Thicke denies any wrongdoing. Following his son’s allegations, he said, “On a very rare occasion and only as a last resort, I will use light spanking, but it is consistent with the law — open hand on the butt. This is the type of discipline to which Paula and I agreed during our marriage.” Yet in court documents, Patton has alleged that her ex “has spanked … yelled at … and grabbed [Julian] by the neck.”
Patton and Thicke, who met in high school, got married in 2005, and in February 2014, they announced that they were separating. One year later, their divorce was finalized.
