‘Peaky Blinders’ movie first look: Cillian Murphy is back as Tommy Shelby as filming starts
By order of the Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby is back.
Production is underway on the “Peaky Blinders” movie, Netflix announced Monday. In addition, the streamer shared two photos: one featuring Cillian Murphy back in character as the gangster and the other of the Oscar winner on set with series creator Steven Knight.

Knight wrote the screenplay, while Tom Harper, who helmed three episodes in “Peaky’s” first season, will direct the film. As previously announced, the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Murphy’s fellow Irishman Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth. Plot details have not been disclosed.
“Peaky Blinders” ran for six seasons on Netflix, from 2013 to 2022, following Shelby, the leader of the notorious Birmingham gang in post-WWI England. Knight had been hinting at a film since the series ended.
In April, two months before the movie was greenlit, Knight told NME that they were all “ready to go,” including Murphy, who was fresh off his Best Actor Oscar win for “Oppenheimer” and had been coyly dodging questions all season (including from Margot Robbie) about a possible film.
“I think the film is gonna be a step up again, and it’s gonna be great that ‘Peaky’ fans can meet in one place and watch it. The budget will be bigger, but also because we know we’re ending this chapter, we’re all going to try to do our best. Cillian is really up for it. So I can’t wait for it to start shooting,” Knight said. “I’m so pleased for him because he deserves [the Oscar]. After every award that he won, he would text and say, ‘I really can’t wait to be doing ‘Peaky.” Confirming that none of this was going to change what we’re going to do next.”
