‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Set at Netflix with Cillian Murphy
Oscar winner Cillian Murphy is returning to the world of Peaky Blinders, saying in a statement: “This is one for the fans.”
Netflix has greenlit a movie based on the beloved series that stars Murphy as Thomas Shelby, the war hero turned gangster who works his way up in the world of crime in 1900s Birmingham. While the film is described as a “continuation” of the series, plot details are being kept under wraps.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penned the screenplay. Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the series’ first season, is set to helm the film.
Knight will co-produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy and Guy Heeley. It will be made in association with BBC Film.
Said Murphy, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me … It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war,” said Knight.
Added Harper: “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
Murphy most recently was in theaters with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which earned him the best actor Oscar. His 28 Days Later sequel, 28 Years Later, is currently in production.
