Peloton 'wife' Monica Ruiz lands guest role on 'The Bold and the Beautiful'
Playing a sad Peloton wife sure has had a happy ending for Monica Ruiz.
Since the actress’s ad for the fancy exercise bike company went viral, she’s been fielding new opportunities. First there was the funny followup ad for Ryan Reynold’s Aviation Gin — and hanging with Reynolds on the Today show. Now, news comes that Ruiz has landed a guest spot on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
Yahoo Entertainment confirmed that she is guest-starring on two episodes of the show, which will air Jan. 29 and 30. However, the role is “top secret” for now, according to a show rep.
The soap opera, which has been on for more than 30 years, has booked a viral personality before. In January, they quickly hired Kelleth Cuthbert, who became known as the Fiji Water Girl after handing out water for the brand on the red carpet, for a guest spot on the show.
B&B, which airs on CBS in the U.S., is the most-watched daytime drama series in the world and is seen daily by millions of people in over 100 countries. Earlier this year, Denise Richards joined the cast, appearing alongside show veterans Katherine Kelly Lang, John McCook and Heather Tom.
Ruiz appeared on the Today show last Thursday and said it was her fault that people thought she looked miserable after being gifted an exercise bike from her husband in the Peloton ad, which was branded “sexist” by some critics. She said her eyebrows expressed a “worried” look and she had a “scared” expression on her face, but the actress insisted that making the commercial was a positive experience.
She also said she hoped that she’s not branded “the Peloton lady” after her viral fame and gets to “work other [acting] jobs,” having previously appeared in other commercials as well as small roles in TV shows (including Baby Daddy and About a Boy) as well as movies.
While Ruiz, a mom of two, has had a positive experience with the Peloton ad going viral, the actor who played her husband, Sean Hunter, hasn’t — or at least not initially. He said that people confused him with the role he played and were acting negatively toward him about it.
