‘The Penguin’ trailer: Gotham City belongs to Colin Farrell in new teaser [Watch]
The sequel to the 2022 superhero hit “The Batman” may have been pushed to 2026, but fans of Matt Reeves’ take on Gotham City will have “The Penguin” to tide them over later this year.
On Friday, Max released a new trailer for the DC Studios limited series starring Colin Farrell as mobster Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin. Farrell’s Penguin was a supporting character in “The Batman” (and one of its best parts), but he gets center stage here as he tries to grab power in Gotham’s underworld after the death of his boss, Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), in “The Batman.”

With Farrell again unrecognizable under layers of prosthetic makeup, Cobb tells a story about Rex Calabrese, a gangster who ran his neighborhood when he was a kid. Calabrese earned people’s respect by helping them out, and when he died, the neighborhood threw a parade in his honor. “Can you imagine, to be remembered like that?” Cobb muses. The trailer sets The Penguin up as a noirish crime story about legacy.
In addition to Farrell, the cast includes Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Carmine’s daughter and Cobb’s nemesis, plus Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen.
The series is executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, Lauren LeFranc (who writes and serves as showrunner), “Mare of Easttown” Emmy nominee Craig Zobel (who directs the first three episodes), and Bill Carraro.
The eight-episode series premieres in fall 2024.
