Here’s What the People Had to Say About the 2024 VMAs

We can always count on the VMAs to give us something to talk about (good or bad!), and this year was no exception. Throughout the show, the biggest night in music celebrated artists from across genres, in addition to serving up the usual lot of performances. My favorite was Sabrina Carpenter’s intergalactic pop show, but Lenny Kravitz’s rock medley featuring Quavo was a close second. You can always count on Kravitz to put some tight pants on and show the kids how it’s done.

As expected, Taylor Swift swept the ceremony. She won seven awards, including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Collaboration with her buddy Post Malone. Now that Swift has thirty moon men, she is officially the most-awarded artist in VMA history. During her acceptance speech for Video of the Year, she thanked her fans for their support, along with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. “Everything that man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic,” she said.

Speaking of fans: The people voted, and Chappell Roan was crowned Best New Artist. It’s a well-earned accolade if you ask me. Who else is dressing up like Joan of Arc, lighting their set on fire, and yelling at hecklers on the red carpet? No. One. The only person with as much confidence is Flav Flav, who presented Jordan Chiles with a bronze clock following her Olympic-medal snafu. Oh, and maybe Shawn Mendes, who managed to keep his cool while two of his exes sang about him.

As the ceremony unfolded, viewers memed the hell out of the show. Below, we’ve rounded up the funniest reactions to the 2024 VMAs.
