Why Is Peta Murgatroyd Leaving Dancing With the Stars?

During an August 29 Instagram Live, Murgatroyd discussed DWTS, telling fans “it’s just too soon” to return. The dance pro gave birth to her third baby with husband Maks Chmerkovskiy a little over a month ago.

“In terms of me, Dancing With the Stars… guys, I’m sorry, it’s not this season,” she said. “It’s just too soon.”

Murgatroyd said that she’s not physically ready for the show. “I have come back after every single baby and every time I go back to Dancing With the Stars, I get pregnant,” she explained. “So I need to take a season off because I cannot get pregnant again, number one.”

She continued, “It’s really sad because I actually really, really wanted to come back. I really did, but guys, they started days ago — there’s no way I am ready physically. Mentally, yeah I’m okay, but physically, I’m not up to par. I would have needed to really get my act into gear, so to speak, because you need to be top of your game for this type of stuff. And I don’t want to let anybody down, I don’t want to be half-hearted. And I want to be here for my babies and I don’t want to miss things. And I feel like it’s too much too soon.”

Murgatroyd further explained how her family needs her right now. “I’m sorry, but it was a choice that I really actually thought about like a week before you get the call and I thought there’s actually no way this time. Usually I go back eight weeks after giving birth, which in itself is crazy, right? Crazy. And it is hard, mentally, physically, everything… So yeah, I chose family over work this time because I don’t know how I would do it, timewise. I don’t want to be away from [third baby] Milan — he needs me. Rio needs me, everybody needs me.”

She said Shai has “big feelings” right now so it’s not the right time for her to be away. “I feel like if I left… the whole house would blow up, so to speak,” Murgatroyd noted.

The dancer recently shared her desire to be a part of DWTS again. In an August 11 Instagram Story, she said, “I would totally love to come back again. I know that sounds crazy. If they would have me. We just never know until the last minute. Obviously you guys know that. It’s the same every season. But, yeah. It’s my home. It’s what I know and love and do best. So, why not? It would be my third time coming back after a baby, which is insane.”

She added, “This would be the shortest amount of time that I would have because I think training starts end of August. So, it would be very, very cool and it would be good for me to get out and do this again and I would love to be dancing again.”

Fans responded in the comments of her Instagram post with words of support and love. “Will miss you this season, but glad you are doing what you feel is best for you and your family,” one person noted. Another commented, “Yes! Stay with your babies ?? they are small for so short a time.”

Other fans assured her she was making the right choice, with one saying, “You’re doing the right thing. Take the time for you and your family” and another noting, “Stay home with your babies. They grow up too fast.”
