Pete Davidson speaks out after social media bullying: 'No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won't.'
As the internet belongs to Ariana Grande and her record-breaking single, “thank u, next,” one of her exes isn’t feeling the same love. Online bullying of Pete Davidson has taken an intense, hateful turn causing the Saturday Night Live star to speak out Monday.
“I’ve kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything. I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference,” Davidson said on Instagram, adding he’s been bullied online “and in public by people for 9 months.”
Grande and Davidson took their relationship public in May, only to get engaged one month later. They broke up in October. He previously opened up about receiving death threats during their relationship.
“No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t,” Davidson added.

The comedian has been open about his mental health challenges, revealing that he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2016. In a candid interview over the summer, Davidson said he attempted suicide in elementary school.
“I tried to drown myself in the pool when I was in the fourth or fifth grade. I was trying to get my head stuck in the ladder in the deep end, so I would not be able to get up,” Davidson told Variety. “But I’m too much of a p****, and my head is too small.”
Last week, Davidson returned to Instagram to promote his new film Big Time Adolescence, which will premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Practically all of the comments on his post were personal jabs or had to do with Grande.
“Ur cancelled tysm for breaking with Ariana bc she’s doing much better BYE,” one commenter wrote, causing Grande’s manager, Scooter Braun, to step in. (Braun set up Grande and Davidson earlier this year.)
“Stop the bulls***. It is nothing like that and Pete is a good dude. No one has hate for this guy and he is a stand up guy,” Braun replied in the comments. “Show respect because trust me everyone on this side knows he deserves it and wishes him well.”
Grande has no ill will toward her ex-fiancé either, as evident in her No. 1 hit single. Her lyric about Davidson says, “Even almost got married / And for Pete, I’m so thankful.” She also gave him a flattering shout-out in her buzzy music video.
