Pharrell’s VB-inspired, star-studded ‘Atlantis’ movie gets May 2025 release date
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The upcoming Virginia Beach-inspired musical from Pharrell Williams now has an official title and release date.
“Atlantis” is scheduled to be widely released in theaters by Universal Pictures on May 9, 2025, Variety and Deadline report.
The film, directed by Michel Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”), will be a coming-of-age story that’s loosely based on Williams’ childhood at the Atlantis Apartments near the Oceanfront.
The films creators also have confirmed more stars that are expected in the film, including Janelle Monae, “Abbott Elementary” star Quinta Brunson and Portsmouth native and hip-hop legend Missy Elliott.
The film’s release coincides with the expected opening of Atlantic Park, a $350-million-plus surf park and entertainment district that’s also backed by Williams.
Don’t forget Williams also has another movie coming out this year on Oct. 11 for Something in the Water weekend. It’s a biopic told in Lego form called “Piece by Piece.”
