Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond Reveals Grandbaby’s Name at Daughter’s Shower
The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, is celebrating the impending arrival of her first grandchild! In her latest blog post, the Food Network star and author shared snaps from the recent baby shower of her eldest daughter, Alex, and the new addition to their family. Inside Alex Drummond’s baby shower: photos and special moments
On Saturday, October 19, Ree woke up at 4:00 am to make the drive from her home in Oklahoma down to Dallas, Texas to attend a baby shower for her eldest daughter, Alex Drummond Scott. The party was hosted by a group of Alex’s college friends along with her younger sister, Paige, Ree wrote.
With a “very large” iced coffee to assist with the early rise and an audiobook to occupy the drive, the trip took Ree about five hours, she said. Some of that time was spent applying “seventeen layers of mascara.”
As per Ree’s description, the occasion was marked by plenty of love, a lot of pink and a surprise appearance by Mauricio, Alex’s Husband, and George, the pair’s fluffy golden retriever.
The shower was hosted at a friend's parents' house in Dallas, where there was finger food, a mimosa bar, petit fours and an abundance of Dr. Pepper, Ree said, also noting that she surprisingly had no involvement in the food assortment! And of course, the guests gathered around to marvel as Alex opened the presents for herself and her baby girl.
“Pretty much the typical baby shower, but the details were gorgeous (Paige and Alex's friends did an amazing job!) and of course it wasn't typical for me because the mom-to-be is my own daughter,” Ree said, also sharing that she teared up a few times throughout the day.

Some of the details Ree referred to were pink bows around the stems of drink glasses, a calendar where everyone guessed the baby’s arrival date (Ree went with the due date of January 2nd), flowers sitting in the baby’s first pair of pink farm boots, baby pictures of the soon-to-be mom and dad, a filled toy chest embroidered with the baby’s initials and a banner boasting her name: Sofia.

Ree has documented quite a few milestones and moments throughout not only her own life, but those of her children who fans have watched grow into adulthood. Ree first shared the news of Alex’s pregnancy back in June.
“Oh my gosh. Alex is pregnant!,” she exclaimed in a blog post. “My first baby is having her first baby. My child is going to have a child. It's surreal, and I'm sure all of you grandparents can relate to the feeling of momentarily leaving your body upon hearing similar news.”
Ree also vowed to resume working out on the rowing machine so she can be “a cool, hip, and fit granny,” as well as getting back to Pilates to ensure she’s “a limber, stretchy, and strong granny.”
She also quipped on Instagram about what the baby would call her.
“Granny. Granny Ree Ree? Maybe just Ree Ree. We’ll wait and see!” she captioned her post about the news.
Ultimately, Ree shared that she and her husband, Ladd, are thrilled for their daughter and to be entering a new chapter as grandparents, stating that it is welcome but unchartered territory.
“We have no idea what being grandparents will look like or how much it will change our lives,” she admitted. “We will figure it out as we go! Right now I'm just savoring the news and savoring each day because I can't believe how fast time is moving.”
Now, it looks like as Sofia's arrival draws nearer, Ree is beginning to think about being as close as possible to her growing family.
“I may have to go ahead and move to Dallas,” she said after the baby shower. “Something tells me I'm going to be making this drive more and more (and more!)”
