Following the announcement of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 being in development, fans of the pirate adventure franchise have been curious about whether or not Johnny Depp will return to the franchise to reprise his role of Jack Sparrow and continue to entertain fans with his shrewd thinking, calculating nature, and eccentricity. Will Johnny Depp be in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

At the time of writing, Johnny Depp’s return as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has not been officially confirmed by Disney, Depp himself, or Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

However, Bruckheimer had revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that he would love to work with Depp again, saying:

“We’ll see. I would love it. I would love to have him in the movie – that’s all that I can tell you.”

Moreover, in recent times Johnny Depp has also expressed openness in reprising his role of Jack Sparrow and working with Disney again. According to sources close to the Jack Sparrow star, Depp has agreed to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. However, the return is determinant on one condition and that condition is the sixth film needs to be the right project for him.

Depp’s recent interest in returning to the franchise is in stark contrast with the reports of his originally negative response about returning as Jack Sparrow in 2022 and refusal to work with Disney as he apparently felt betrayed by the way the Mouse House treated him during his legal turmoil with Amber Heard. This was confirmed when he told Amber Heard’s lawyer Ben Rottenborn that he would not work with Disney again, even if they offered him a $300 million paycheck for a sixth film.

Will Captain Jack Sparrow be in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

Although Johnny Depp’s return to the franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow is currently unconfirmed, there is the possibility that Disney might move forward with telling more Captain Jack Sparrow stories by recasting the character.

However, the recasting would no doubt prove controversial and invite a lot of fan backlash as Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow are synonymous with one another by this point.
