Pitbull just signed a 10-year deal to name a college football stadium after himself

Pitbull Stadium is coming to Florida International University.

?Dale!

Miami's Florida International University announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with noted Floridian Pitbull on Tuesday, signing a 10-year agreement with the "Timber" rapper that will see FIU Stadium renamed as Pitbull Stadium (even though Pit Bowl was right there!).

Mr. Worldwide called the partnership a "true honor," adding, "Renaming the stadium isn't just about a name change. It's about inspiring the community, creating opportunities and showing the world that with determination and a clear vision, anything is possible. We're making history together, and we're just getting started. Why dream when you can live it?"

Pitbull will pay $1.2 million every year for five years, and will have the option to renew the agreement in 2029 for an additional five years, according to FIU's trustee meeting documentation. The deal will make the "Give Me Everything" rapper the "official entrepreneur of FIU Athletics" and will grant him the ability to use the stadium for his own events 10 days every year, as well as two VIP box suites in the stadium.

FIU and Pitbull are touting Pitbull Stadium as the first-ever sports stadium to have its naming rights held by an artist. While that might sound surprising at this juncture in late-stage capitalism, Pitbull makes perfect sense as the musician to break this new ground: He's clearly prone to self-mythologizing and has an unabashed openness to a multitude of brand partnerships. (The more surprising element is that he beat other mogul-entertainers like Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds to the punch — The Rock Stadium almost feels inevitable at this point.)

Per the agreement, Pitbull will record an FIU anthem for the school, and will participate in at least one fundraising event per year and promote the school on social media. The stadium will also serve the rapper's Voli 305 Vodka as its preferred alcohol brand, and a "Pitbull-affiliated performer" will have the ability to perform at a halftime event or postgame show at a football game.

The FIU deal isn't Pitbull’s first venture involving Floridian sports and education — he also launched the nonprofit SLAM (Sports Leadership Arts and Management) in 2012, which has served more than 10,000 students in five states.

Scott Carr, FIU's director of athletics, called Pitbull's financial contributions "program-changing" but said "him providing a microphone to amplify FIU will be even more beneficial to growing our brand. I couldn't be more excited about our partnership as this will take us to another level. We can now officially say: 'Paws up, dale!'"

Paws up, dale, indeed.
