Pit Bull In A Skirt: Reflecting On Eve’s Iconic Style Moments
Eve burst onto the scene with audacious paw print tattoos and an undeniable talent that set her apart from her peers. As Ruff Ryder’s first lady, her skills placed her among the likes of DMX, The LOX, Jadakiss, Swizz Beatz, Styles P, and Sheek Louch. Through her music, the self-proclaimed “illest vicious pit bull in a skirt” shared stories of heartbreak and love, boasted impenetrable confidence and swagger, and forever etched her name in Hip-Hop history.
Debuting in 1999 with Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady, the album featured singles such as “Gotta Man”, and “Love Is Blind” with Faith Evans. Eve became the third female Hip-Hop artist to have her album peak at number-one on the Billboard 200 following Lauryn Hill’s debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998 and Foxy Brown’s second album, Chyna Doll earlier that year.
From there, Eve continued to succeed musically with Scorpion, Eve-Olution, and more plaques, lauded features, and a Grammy award. However, the Philadelphia native did not limit her skills to the record booth. In 2003, she launched her first clothing line, Fetish, infusing her personal style and edge with ready-to-wear products. Her signature tattoos were only one element that certified Eve as a fashion and beauty trendsetter. Whether she rocked a burgundy-toned mini afro and extravagant fur coat or a platinum blonde bob with a form-fitting cocktail dress, the “Gangsta Lovin'” performer turned heads.
She also found another lane in acting, starring in the Barbershop film series, and making cameos in additional projects. Her eponymous fictional series Eve ran for three years, with the rapper even producing multiple episodes. The list of Eve’s on-screen appearances includes serving as a host on The Talk and most recently acting on the drama series Queens in 2022.
In celebration of her 45th birthday, take a look below at some of Eve’s most iconic looks throughout her career.
