Popcaan Demands Kendrick Lamar Song Be Turned Off Out Of Loyalty To Drake
Popcaan has pledged his loyalty to Drake as he demanded a Kendrick Lamar song be turned off. During an interview with Link Up TV, Popcaan was in the middle of talking about his career when suddenly a K. Dot track began blaring in the background. The dancehall artist becomes visibly annoyed at the track’s presence and begins questioning why his music is playing while he’s around.
The interviewer alerts him that someone in the building is playing music on the “surround sound upstairs,” which Pop isn’t too pleased to hear. “I don’t care. I don’t wanna hear that. Change the station,” he shot back in disbelief. “Weh? If a dat a play, skip dat bloodclaat! Nuh waan hear daat… Change di station!”
Popcaan then elaborated on his disdain for Lamar’s music, pointing to his allegiance to Drake and his OVO collective. At one point, he even rolled up his sleeve and showed off his OVO tattoo on his arm. He explained that while he is now independent, he is still an avid supporter and friend of Drizzy.
“Mi nuh know why di bomboclaat dem a play Kendrick Lamar in yah bout. Mi nuh waan hear no Kendrick Lamar ni**a,” he continued explaining. “All when time mi independent, an OVO mi ting deh same way. Yeh, a loyalty me deal wid.”
The dancehall superstar has been associated with OVO since 2016 before the singer officially joined the imprint in 2018. However, in 2023, he told Crack Magazine that he was ready to become a free agent, admitting that he has a love-hate relationship with October’s Very Own over business decisions. “I have so much music [but] the label can be weird sometimes. I love the label, but I don’t like them,” he revealed to the outlet. “But I’ll be independent soon.”
