Britney Spears' first-ever memoir, The Woman in Me, will be published on Oct. 24, 2023. PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the book in this week's issue; the tome touches on everything from her rise to superstardom to what she calls her "soul-crushing" conservatorship experience and her past relationships.

The memoir is available for pre-order now at Amazon and at Bookshop.

Spears, 41, first announced her plans to write a book in February 2022, with Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery Books landing the rights.

Promising to reveal “for the first time her incredible journey [and] strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history,” according to a press release from Gallery Books, the memoir “illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”

“Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me," Spears tells PEOPLE in this week's issue. "After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life. It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out. And my fans deserve to hear it directly from me. No more conspiracy, no more lies — just me owning my past, present and future.”

In a July 2023 Instagram post, Spears teased the text, telling fans, "I worked my ass off for this book. I had a lot of therapy to get this book done, so you guys better like it. If you don’t like it, that’s fine too.”

The singer has many fans in her corner, with longtime friend Paris Hilton telling PEOPLE recently that she's "so proud" of Spears for "telling her story," and Jada Pinkett Smith — who just released her own memoir, Worthysharing on Instagram that she "can't wait" to read it, as well.

PEOPLE announced on Oct. 13 that actress Michelle Williams will narrate the accompanying audiobook, with an introduction by Spears.

“I stand with Britney,” Williams says in a statement of her support for the Grammy-winning singer.
