President Trump mocks Oscars yet again: A brief Twitter history
Guillermo del Toro was the king of Hollywood on Sunday night, after winning Best Director and having The Shape of Water named Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards. Nonetheless, the show itself wasn’t a ratings triumph, posting the lowest viewer numbers in its history. And that fact didn’t go unnoticed by President Trump, who was the subject of host Jimmy Kimmel’s barbs and whose policies were blasted in more than a few victory speeches.
In typical Trump fashion, the president took to his favorite medium to rail against the show and one his favorite targets: Hollywood.
Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore – except your President (just kidding, of course)!

Trump, who has used Twitter to slam the likes of Alec Baldwin and Oprah Winfrey in recent days, never holds back when it comes to showbiz’s top galas. During the past few years, he’s made sure to find time to lambaste the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmys for any number of perceived slights, including his infamous tweets from last year about Meryl Streep, whom he once adored but then naturally turned against when she used her stage time (during her acceptance speech for the Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille Award) to directly censure the newly elected president.
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..

Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him…….

"groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!

In 2015, he said about the Oscars:
The Oscars are a sad joke, very much like our President. So many things are wrong!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 23, 2015
Put the glamour, beauty & mystery back in the Oscars and the ratings will zoom. Also, & most importantly, the Oscars need credibility.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2015
Plus, he also had this really-not-good idea on Instagram:
Trump to host #Oscars? #TrumpVlog

And in 2014, he live-tweeted the Oscars by “popular(extremely) demand,” which resulted in such eloquent and compassionate comments as:
I'm having a real hard time watching the Academy Awards (so far). The last song was terrible! Kim should sue her plastic surgeon! #Oscars
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 3, 2014
Just terrible! #Oscars
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 3, 2014
This cannot be the the Academy Awards #Oscars AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 3, 2014
Trump’s distaste for Hollywood awards traces back to 2012, when he famously groused about his inability to win an Emmy, and claimed he knew exactly why.
The Emmys are all politics, that’s why, despite nominations, The Apprentice never won–even though it should have many times over.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 24, 2012
Some things have never changed.
Update: It didn’t take long for Kimmel to clap back at Trump’s post-Oscar tweet.
Thanks, lowest rated President in HISTORY. https://t.co/E01UgDaZ3T
