In case you forgot that Max’s Pretty Little Liars reboot shares a universe with The CW’s Riverdale, Episode 6 of PLL: Summer School is more than happy to remind you. And not very subtly.

During a Pride pool party, Greg approaches Faran with major news: not only did he quit Redemption House, but he also ended things with Kelly. He’s seen the light, and he’s even a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, that’s where the show’s latest Riverdale connection comes in.

“I’m an ally,” Greg says. “My cousin Kevin, who lives in Riverdale, he’s gay.”

For those who didn’t watch Riverdale, Kevin Keller (played by Casey Cott) was one of Archie Andrews’ high school pals, the group’s token gay guy whose interests included cruising in the park, staging elaborate musicals and joining the occasional religious cult. That last one apparently runs in the family.

We do have to wonder, though, when is the last time Greg actually spoke with Kevin? And since the comet in Season 6 altered the timeline, transporting the inhabitants of Riverdale back to the 1950s, wouldn’t the Kevin of this show actually be much older — if not already dead? Greg’s throwaway line about Kevin was probably meant to be an Easter egg more than anything else, but we’d rather make a meal out of it.

We first learned about Pretty Little Liars‘ connection to Riverdale in Season 1, back when the show was still called Original Sin. While searching for a person of interest in their initial mystery, the girls were directed to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, an iconic location from Riverdale — a home for “troubled youths” run by a group of corrupt nuns.

The connection makes more sense when you remember that Pretty Little Liars co-showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was previously the showrunner of Riverdale. This unofficial Roberto-verse also technically includes Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Katy Keene. (We’re forever crossing our fingers for a double Lucy Hale cameo so that Katy can finally meet Aria Montgomery.)

The reveal of Bloody Rose at the end of the hour overshadows this little Easter egg, but we have our doubts about who Imogen thinks she saw under that mask. At least we know that Greg and Kevin’s connection is real, albeit totally random.

Did your ears perk up at Greg’s mention of his cousin Kevin? And did you also hurt yourself trying to figure out how Pretty Little Liars‘ timeline aligns with Riverdale‘s? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
