Prime Video Announces THE BOYS Animated Anthology Series DIABOLICAL
Things are about to get a little animated over at The Boys. Literally. We’re anxiously awaiting season three of the beloved, chaotic superhero series, which will debut sometime next year. But it appears we’re getting a double dose of The Boys in 2022. Over the weekend at CCXP Worlds 2021, Brazil’s premier comics convention, Karl Urban announced The Boys animated series Diabolical. The eight-episode anthology series is set within the world of The Boys. And given that it’s called Diabolical, it’s safe to say that like the flagship series, it’s not going to be afraid to go there.
Eric Kripke and company have enlisted a very funny crew to tackle these new additions to The Boys‘ universe. Among those making their mark on the series, per a Prime Video press release, are Awkwafina, Garth Ennis, Eliot Glazer and Ilana Glazer, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, Simon Racioppa, Justin Roiland and Ben Bayouth, Andy Samberg, and Aisha Tyler.
Yep, among that group is The Boys comic co-creator, an SNL alum, a Rick and Morty co-creator, and one of the minds behind Broad City, And we haven’t even gotten to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg yet. We’re laughing just thinking about the wild antics they’ll bring to their respective episodes.
In a statement, The Boys creator and Diabolical executive producer Eric Kripke teased the anthology series. Unsurprisingly, it sounds like (delightful) chaos.
“Surprise! We’re almost finished with eight episodes of our animated series, Diabolical,” he said. “We gathered together some incredible creators and we gave them one rule … just kidding, there’s no rules. They blew the doors off it, delivering eight completely unexpected, funny, shocking, gory, moist, emotional episodes. You think The Boys is nuts? Wait till you see this.”
Rogen and Goldberg, meanwhile, called the project a “dream come true,” noting they’ve wanted to do a project like this since watching The Matrix animated anthology film, The Animatrix.
The Diabolical animated series and The Boys will each debut on Prime Video in 2022. Suffice to say, we’re ready for a double dose of the titular boys and our favorite (evil) supes.
