Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Low-Key Christmas Shows How Important Their Family Traditions Are

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are setting new Christmas traditions for the family now that they are firmly embedded in their Montecito, California community. While there was some unconfirmed chatter about a possible Sandringham invitation from King Charles III, the Sussexes are settling in for a sunny holiday on the West Coast.

They kicked off their Christmas week with a top-secret vacation to Costa Rica that was only discovered after the family of four had left the country. The “Pura Vida” way of life was the perfect way to kick off a special week, and it sounds like Harry and Meghan have some low-key plans ahead of them. Sources told Us Weekly that they will be with Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, along with several friends. “They’ll be cooking, playing games and swapping gifts,” the insider revealed. “They have a tough time trying not to spoil the kids too much!”

One of the Duchess of Sussex’s favorite holiday traditions is to spend quality time with Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2. “I love trimming and decorating the tree with my children,” she told E! News at Variety‘s Power of Women event in November. The Us Weekly source also noted that fans can expect the couple to “spend plenty of time outdoors, hiking with the dogs or kicking a soccer ball around with the kids” because “they try not to rely too heavily on nannies.”

When it comes to their downtime as adults, they enjoy hosting people over at their $14 million home. “They also like to host dinner parties at the house and just kick back and binge-watch shows,” they added. And of course, they will probably reach out to Charles to wish him the best of the holiday season, just like they did for his 75th birthday in mid-November. It will hopefully be another step toward reconciliation — although Prince William is an entirely different matter.

In looking ahead to 2024, Harry and Meghan are in “high demand” and fielding plenty of offers from Hollywood. And on a personal note, they want to “have more contact with the royal family as 2024 unfolds.” Let’s hope their wish comes true!
