Prince William back in public for the first time since Kate’s cancer announcement

Prince William has returned to official royal engagements Thursday for the first time since his wife, Kate Middleton, revealed her cancer diagnosis last month.

The Prince of Wales, 41, received a warm welcome at food charity Surplus to Supper in Surrey, southwest of London, where he chatted to volunteers and lent a helping hand in the kitchen.

The father of three was pictured smiling as he chopped up some vegetables and packed food for redistribution.

William, the heir to the throne, is also set to pay a visit to a youth center in west London later on in the day, where he will see how the food charity’s work benefits youngsters across the capital.

The Prince’s visit “spotlights the community and environmental impact organizations in the area are having through their work,” Kensington Palace told The Post in a statement.

William met with “volunteers who sort and deliver food on behalf of the charity and helped load this into their vans for transportation to local organizations. His Royal Highness also joined the team of chefs in the kitchen and assist in the preparation of the meals.”

William’s last public engagement was on March 19 — three days before the Princess of Wales’s cancer announcement — when he visited housing initiatives in Sheffield, north England, to promote his project to alleviate homelessness.

During his visit, William made some remarks about his ailing wife.

When a well-wisher told William that he sent Middleton a “get well” card, the royal responded, “You really are very kind.”

Following the official engagement, William took a few weeks off from official duties to spend time with his family and care for his wife.

In a prerecorded clip shared on March 22, the Princess of Wales revealed her health woes to the world, saying doctors discovered her cancer during a planned abdominal surgery in January.

Princess Kate noted during her announcement last month that she is now in the early stages of undergoing “a course of preventative chemotherapy”

It’s understood that Middleton decided to share the news with the world that particular day as it was before her and William’s three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, left school for Easter break.

The Post revealed that the Waleses “sugarcoated” her health woes when breaking the news to their youngest son Louis, but had a more “difficult” conversation with George and Charlotte.

As the royal undergoes treatment, her parents, Michael, 74, and Carole Middleton, 69, are stepping in to support their grandchildren during this fraught time.

For his part, King Charles has, too, been forced to hit the brakes on much of his royal agenda since news of his cancer diagnosis came to light.
