Prince William breaks his silence on Kate Middleton conspiracy theories and royal family’s ‘instability’
Prince William is staying calm and carrying on — at least in public.
The future king’s rep released a brief statement as the United Kingdom’s royal family continues to make headlines for King Charles and Kate Middleton’s health scares — and the conspiracy theories surrounding the Princess of Wales.
“His focus is on his work and not on social media,” a spokesman said on behalf of Prince William to People for its Wednesday cover story.
The comment comes one day after Middleton’s name was listed on the official UK Army website as leading the annual review of soldiers at Horse Guards Parade in London on June 8, following her January abdominal surgery. However, her office at Kensington Palace said the army hadn’t consulted them about her appearance.
Middleton’s name has now been removed from the website.
Details on Middleton’s surgery have remained private, with the palace stating that it was “successful.”
“It is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement said in January. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private,” the statement continued. “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
Last week, the palace insisted she was still “doing well” when William had to drop out of attending his godfather’s memorial at the last minute for “personal reasons.” As even more conspiracy theories ran rampant about Middleton’s whereabouts, the palace released another statement to The Post.
“Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates,” her rep told The Post exclusively on Feb. 29. “That guidance stands.”
While William completely ignored a reporter in Wrexham, Wales, asking about Middleton’s condition on March 1, the future queen herself was spotted for the very first time post-surgery while she was driven by her mother, Carole Middleton, near Windsor Castle on March 4.
As Middleton continues to recover, King Charles III has been receiving treatment for his cancer. His wife, Queen Camilla, is reportedly now on vacation after she stepped in to complete 13 extra royal engagements for him amid his health battle.
“Everybody feels unsettled by uncertainty, and there is too much uncertainty that is surrounding the monarchy right now,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told People. “Queen Elizabeth used to say, ‘I need to be seen to be believed.’ It is important for Charles and his reign for the public to know a little bit more.”
She added: “The monarchy needs to be that anchor in times of trouble, and any sense of instability, which is inevitable when you have two of the key players out of action, is understandable.”
Catherine Mayer, who authored the biography “Charles: The Heart of a King,” noted: “This is massively exposing how the royal family has gone from too many people to too few in a short space of time.”
Charles’ condition too has been kept under wraps for the most part, as William has been pulling double duty for the Firm. His estranged younger brother, Prince Harry, reportedly “offered to help,” but the family will “manage” without him, according to Charles’ former butler, Grant Harrold.
“Even though he has revealed that he has a form of cancer, that has done nothing to quell the speculation about how seriously ill he may or may not be,” Bedell Smith told People. “That is not doing the monarchy any favors. He is the head of state, and there are constitutional implications.”
