Prince William to Fill in for King Charles at Upcoming Landmark Events

Prince William is proving his worth as a future king!

The Prince of Wales will play a pivotal role in attending a series of landmark events in the coming weeks, taking the lead on a select few engagements after several others were canceled due to the election campaign going on in the U.K.

After Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a general election date for July 4, the royal family postponed a number of planned engagements to prevent causing a "distraction" during the election campaign, something that is "normal procedure" for Buckingham Palace during an election.

But there are still a few upcoming royal engagements for King Charles and Prince William to attend before the election. William, 41, will stick to his duties and be present at commemorative events in Normandy, France, next month to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. His father and Queen Camilla are also expected to show up nearby at a smaller ceremony, leaving William to take the reins himself.

The same day as the Canadian commemorative ceremony at the Juno Beach Centre, Courseulles-sur-Mer, on June 6, Charles and Camilla will be busy attending the Ministry of Defence and Royal British Legion's event at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer.

Later that same day, William will also be present for the international commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach, Saint Laurent sur Mer, according to a recent Associated Press report.

William's wife, Kate Middleton, is not expected to make an appearance in France, as we know she is currently laying low while undergoing chemotherapy treatments for an undisclosed type of cancer.

The Princess of Wales shared her cancer diagnosis in March after undergoing a planned abdominal surgery in January. Her health battle comes in the midst of the monarch's own cancer journey, which he revealed publicly in February.

Aside from the schedule disruption as a result of the election in the U.K., Charles has recently returned to his usual royal duties, whereas Kate has not attended a public event since December 2023.
