Prince William Hints at What 2025 Will Look Like for Kate Middleton After Her Cancer Diagnosis

Prince William is giving royal fans hints of what 2025 is going to look like for him and Kate Middleton after a very challenging year. The Prince and Princess of Wales are looking to reshape their roles and refine what their future reign will look like.

William spoke to The Times after his tour of South Africa to reveal how he and his wife would like to keep the palace running but on a much smaller scale. “I’m trying to do it differently and I’m trying to do it for my generation,” he explained. “And to give you more of an understanding around it, I’m doing it with maybe a smaller ‘r’ in the royal if you like. So, it’s more about impact, philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people.”
He expects Kate to be by his side as long as she is feeling strong and healthy — and that includes some possible European visits. “I think hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up,” William said. The Prince of Wales’ latest statement lines up with what he’s been saying over the last few years — he and Kate will be diving deeper into their passion causes but will be seen less.
During his Singapore trip in November 2023, William first dropped the bomb that he was narrowing his focus to “social leadership” to “bring change” in a different way instead of taking on too many royal patronages. “You have to remain focused, if you spread yourself too thin you just can’t manage it and you won’t deliver the impact or the change that you really want to happen,” he told the print media, via Roya Nikkhah, Royal Editor of The Sunday Times on X.
Robert Jobson, author of Catherine: The Princess of Wales, told Hello! that Kate was going to be taking a “less is more” approach to her future engagements. “I do think that we will start to see a lot more of her and that she will carry out engagements as well as continue to work behind the scenes,” he said. “But rather than travel all over the country all the time, like she used to, I think she will concentrate on more impactful events.”
There also seems to be a bit of PR strategy happening with William and Kate — they want to make a splash instead of being seen at every public event. “With Catherine being the main female star of the royal family, actually you can make a bigger statement by being seen less,” Jobson added. So, royal fans should get used to seeing less of the Prince and Princess of Wales as they pick and choose the particular palace events that will make the biggest impact.
