Prince William & Kate Middleton Reveal the One Thing They Can’t Do Because of Their Competitiveness
Although Prince William and Kate Middleton make public appearances all the time, it’s safe to say don’t know the ins and outs of their relationship as much as we’d like. After all, besides some rare comments, and even rarer PDA moments, what happens between the Prince and Princess of Wales behind closed doors stays impressively under wraps.
So, to the surprise of their fans, the couple shared a glimpse into their lives as a couple recently during an appearance in the The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast. In the episode, hosted by Zara Tindall’s husband Mike Tindall, James Haskell and Alex Payne, the Waleses chatted with the hosts, and Princess Anne, about the importance of sport in their lives and opened up about their competitive sides.

In one moment, Tindall poked fun at Middleton and hinted that she was ultra-competitive. “I’ve seen her play beer pong,” he joked. Middleton, for her part, somewhat denied the rumors. “I’m really not that competitive. I don’t know where this has come from,” she said.
Later on, however, one of the co-hosts asked whether Middleton and William’s competitive sides ever become a problem in their relationship. “I don’t think we’ve actually managed to finish a game [of] tennis, the two of us,” the Duchess admitted, looking at her husband. “It becomes a mental challenge between the two of us.”

William then agreed, saying their games together end up being about “who can out-mental each other.”
Although we now know not to challenge either of them to a match anytime soon, it seems like their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, didn’t get their parents’ competitive spirit quite yet. “What I think is really interesting is that they are all obviously very different temperaments,” Kate said, adding that “they are growing and trying out different sports.”
“They’re obviously still really young,” she continued. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that grows and develops.”
But, knowing how much their parents are competitive and big fans of sports, it seems like at least one of their kids might follow in their footsteps soon. After all, who said being competitive has to be a bad thing?
