Prince William and Kate Middleton's Wedding Had the Most Unexpected Surprise Performance
Hint: the royals apparently love movie musicals.

Even though Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding went down in history as one of the most chronicled events of all time, with everything from the wedding gown to the double kiss becoming cemented in everyone's minds, there are still tidbits about that big day that are making news—including a never-before-shared moment that came at the reception. In his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, royal biographer Robert Jobson revealed that the now-Prince and Princess of Wales treated guests to an impromptu performance.
During Kate and William's second reception, which took place at the Throne Room of Buckingham Palace and had 300 guests (right before, Queen Elizabeth II had hosted a larger one with 650 attendees), the newlyweds treated their friends and family to a surprise rendition of "You're the One That I Want" from Grease.
“They stood holding hands in the middle of the dance floor grinning, then suddenly the opening bars of the song ‘You’re the One That I Want’ from the musical Grease came booming out,” Jobson shared. “William and Catherine then began dancing around, pointing at each other, and mouthing the words with the style of the lead characters Danny and Sandy. It brought the house down.”

In addition to that performance, British star Ellie Goulding also made an appearance, giving renditions of Elton John’s "Your Song" as Kate and William's first dance and The Killers's "Mr. Brightside," which is reportedly one of Kate's favorite songs (same, girl!).
“William and Kate were in the middle, giving it their all,” a guest told People at the time. “They really went for it. They were in the full party spirit and stayed until the last minute.”

Jobson spoke to Goulding for his book and, naturally, the singer said that performing at the wedding of the century came with a little pressure.
“I was so nervous,” she told him. “My hands were shaking.”
To close out the night, Goulding performed The Beatles’s “She Loves You” before a firework show and the couple's grand exit via a Fiat Cinquecento. They didn't actually leave the palace grounds, but the symbolic exit became one of the most memorable moments of the night for both Kate and William and their guests, who reportedly partied until 3 a.m.
