Princess Charlotte Has Not Outgrown the Hobby That Keeps Her Closest to Grandma Princess Diana

Although Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter Princess Charlotte never got to meet her grandma, the late Princess Diana, she still has a connection with her. For years, the 9-year-old has shared a special hobby with her dad’s mom, who died in 1997, and as she gets older, she has not outgrown it.

During a visit to the Swiss Valley Community Primary School in Wales on Tuesday, the Prince of Wales enjoyed performances of Welsh songs. He talked to one student named Ruby Davies and confirmed that Princess Charlotte still enjoys dancing — just like Princess Diana once did.

“Charlotte loves her performing and dancing as well so I am going to show her your video when I get home,” William said, per Hello! Magazine. How sweet is that?

The Big Help Out is a day when people are encouraged to volunteer in their communities. This isn’t the first time the royals have talked about Charlotte’s love for dancing. In a visit to a prints-works factory called Standfast & Barracks last year, Princess Kate told a 7-year-old girl, “My daughter Charlotte likes dancing. She loves ballet and tap … keep up the dancing!”

Princess Diana loved dancing as well. One of her former dance instructors Anne Allan recently opened up about working with the late Princess of Wales in an interview with Closer Weekly. “She worked very hard at technique, and she worked very hard at giving herself strength,” Allan said about Princess Diana. “But the biggest joy to me was just watching when she felt comfortable enough to just move by herself. You could see the pure joy that she got from dancing.” And now her granddaughter gets that same joy, which is so beautiful to see.

During the visit on Tuesday, the student named Ruby gave Prince William a book of postcards written by the students and friendship bracelets to pass to his kids, including 11-year-old Prince George and 6-year-old Prince Louis. “That’s so sweet,” Prince William responded as he accepted the gift, per Hello! “Did you put them together yourself? They’re going to wear those, you’ll see them out and about.”

“I’ll keep them away from Louis because he’ll try and steal all his sister’s bits,” he added. (We can totally picture Louis doing this!)

Prince William seems so proud of his daughter and her love of dance, and we bet part of that is how special it is that she shares this special hobby with his mom. Princess Diana would have loved Princess Charlotte!
