How Priscilla Presley honored Elvis on the anniversary of his death
Priscilla Presley, the former wife of Elvis Presley, posted a remembrance of the music icon on Friday, the anniversary of the singer’s death.
On both her Instagram and X accounts, Priscilla posted a minute-long video of a young Elvis, with the caption: “47 years and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you“ – referring to Elvis' passing on Aug. 16, 1977.
Earlier in the week, Priscilla also posted about the passing of Elvis’ mother, Gladys, who died on Aug.14 1958. In her remembrance of Gladys, Priscilla recalled Elvis’ deep affection for his mother.
“She meant the world to him,” Priscilla wrote on Instagram. “He shared so many stories about how protective she was… one being, she would walk with him to school in fear he would get beat up by the schools bad boys. He would ask her to stop before they were near the school. I never met Gladys but I felt I knew her through all his stories.”
In past years, Priscilla has been a fixture at Elvis Week events. However, she was absent from last year's and this year’s proceedings (while Elvis' post-Priscilla girlfriend, Linda Thompson, was one of Elvis Week's featured guests both years).

Priscilla’s absence from this year follows the release of the October 2023 film "Priscilla" from director Sofia Coppola. Coppola adapted "Priscilla" from the 1985 best-seller "Elvis and Me" by Priscilla Beaulieu Presley (as her credit appears on the cover) and Sandra Harmon.
Notably, Elvis Presley Enterprises did not license any of Elvis music for the film. Joel Weinshanker, managing partner and majority owner of Elvis Presley Enterprises, has said EPE would only license music for projects "that Elvis would be proud of." And “Priscilla" depicted Elvis as "cruel and manipulative" (according to The New York Times) and emphasized the fact that Priscilla was 14 when Elvis — who was in the Army in Germany when he met her — began his pursuit.
After the death of Elvis and Priscilla’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley in January 2023, Priscilla mounted a legal challenge over oversight of the estate of Lisa Marie, including Graceland. The filing in Los Angeles Superior Court disputed the validity of a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie's living trust that removed Priscilla and a former business manager as trustees and replaced them with Lisa Marie's two oldest children, Riley and Benjamin Keough, if she died or became incapacitated. Benjamin died in 2020.
In May 2023, Priscilla said the dispute had been "resolved." "My family has resolved all confusion as it relates to our plea to the court and request for document interpretation after my daughter Lisa Marie's untimely passing," Priscilla said in statement at the time. "Although the media identified such a plea as a lawsuit, I want to make clear that there was never any lawsuit filed against my beloved granddaughter. As a family, we are pleased that we resolved this together."
In June 2023, a California court ruled that Riley Keough, the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, would be the sole trustee for her late mother's estate.
Keough petitioned the Los Angeles Superior Court to approve the settlement she reached in May with her grandmother, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie's ex-husband Michael Lockwood, the father and guardian ad litem of Keough's younger half siblings, 15-year-old twins Finley and Harper Lockwood.
As part of the agreement between Presley family, the Presley estate will be split between Lisa Marie's family members — and it also specified that Priscilla will be buried at Graceland as near as possible to Elvis, her ex-husband.
