Legendary West Coast rapper and singer Nate Dogg, an instantly recognizable voice from some of our favorite tracks, sadly passed away in 2011. Southern California-based producer SNBRN, however, was lucky enough to get his hands on an unreleased Nate Dogg a capella, officially licensed by the late artist’s estate, for his new track “Gangsta Walk.”
Rather than trying to replicate the g-funk production that Nate Dogg’s voice is most associated with, SNBRN brought the vocals into his own world, just as he did with his highly popular 2014 remix of 50 Cent and Nate Dogg’s “21 Questions.” Often, dance music remixes of rap songs are overblown drop-fests, retaining none of the original’s spirit, but SNBRN does things differently here.
“[After the ’21 Questions’ remix] I was really on the hunt for a rapper with that similar style to collaborate or remix,” he explains, “One thing led to another and I got one better, an original unreleased Nate Dogg a capella called ‘Gangsta Walk’ fell into my lap.”
