Props stolen from set of 'Beetlejuice 2' in Vermont, police say
Souvenir hunters are haunting the "Beetlejuice 2" movie set in Vermont, according to the local police department.
Authorities are investigating two thefts, one of a large lamp post topped with a distinctive pumpkin decoration and the other a 150-pound abstract art piece taken from a cemetery, Vermont State Police said in a statement.
Officers received a report from movie security personnel shortly after midnight on July 14, showing someone driving a truck up to the large lamp post holding the pumpkin decoration, removing it from its base, bundling it into the back of a truck, covering it with a tarp, and fleeing away at high speed.
The second incident was reported around 4 p.m. on July 17, wherein a 150-pound abstract art statue was stolen from the vicinity of a cemetery, according to officials. That theft is believed to have occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on July 13 and 11 a.m. on July 17.
Earlier this year in May, Warner Bros. announced that "Beetlejuice 2" will arrive in theaters in 2024. The wacky horror comedy is a long-awaited sequel to the 1988 Tim Burton movie, which starred Michael Keaton as a mischievous poltergeist.
Burton and Keaton have returned to star in the new film. Winona Ryder, who played misanthropic goth Lydia Deetz in the original movie, is also reprising her role in the project. "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega has joined the crew as well.
The sequel to the 1988 movie is filming in East Corinth, near the New Hampshire border.
