Queen Camilla Favors Sapphire Dress With Exaggerated Shoulders for Final Day of the Emperor and Empress of Japan’s State Visit
Queen Camilla favored a vibrant color scheme as she bid farewell to the Emperor and Empress of Japan at Buckingham Palace on Thursday in London. The queen consort and King Charles III hosted Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan during their state visit to the United Kingdom this week.
For the occasion, Queen Camilla brought a splash of color to the occasion by fashioning a sapphire dress courtesy of Fiona Clare — one of the queen consort’s favorite go-to designers. The blue midi dress featured long sleeves and slightly exaggerated shoulders.

The skirt of the dress included soft, elegant pleating. On the bodice of the dress, an ornate design created a textual addition to the fabric. There was also a scalloped neckline to the dress.
Along with the sapphire frock, Queen Camilla wore a pair of suede taupe heels. She accessorized with dainty bracelets and necklaces, and added a finishing touch by wearing a butterfly brooch with blue gemstones.
Empress Masako of Japan opted for a simple skirt suit, with coordinated heels for her farewell audience with the king and queen consort. King Charles’ choice of wardrobe seemingly complemented his wife’s, opting for a navy pinstripe suit with a light blue tie. Emperor Naruhito went classic with a black suit.
Unlike the first day of the Emperor and Empress of Japan’s state visit, Queen Camilla embraced a pop of color for her sartorial statement. On Tuesday, the queen consort greeted the Emperor and Empress of Japan wearing an Anna Valentine white dress with a coordinated Philip Treacy hat with black detailing, which she previously wore to Buckingham Palace’s first garden party of 2024 last May.
Although she consistently wears the same silhouette, Queen Camilla finds ways to vary her royal wardrobe. Her use of color and patterns are often a favorite option of the queen consort, who’s worn animal print and bright colors in the past. It’s a staple quality of the British royal family member’s wardrobe.
