Queen Mathilde of Belgium Revives Armani Privé Couture Runway Look and ‘Makes It Her Own’ for Service of Remembrance in London
Queen Mathilde of Belgium gave summertime florals a sleek, contemporary spin for the annual Belgian Parade and Service of Remembrance in London on Saturday. The royal attended the event at The Cenotaph, along with several dignitaries, to remember and honor the fallen of Belgium and Great Britain in the World Wars.
For the occasion, Queen Mathilde fashioned a look from Giorgio Armani Privé’s spring 2024 couture collection. The look featured a long-sleeve coat with a hemline to Queen Mathilde’s knee. The glossy fabric, with a base shade of icy blue, featured abstract florals in various tones of magenta, teal, rose and more.

The ornate design cascaded over the fabric of the garment. Beneath the jacket, Queen Mathilde fashioned an icy blue dress. She continued the cool color motif with a pair of cobalt gray heels and a gray satin clutch courtesy of Giorgio Armani as well. The finishing touch was a pillbox hat in a shade of light green.
Queen Mathilde’s designer look made its runway debut during Paris Couture Week last January. Designs featured throughout the collection evoked a playful and experimental mood, merging shine and sparkle into various garments and designs.
The Italian fashion house’s collection “played within the register of delicacy, wanderlust and maximalism, often combining sheer, lace, pattern and crystals within a single outfit,” as noted in WWD’s review.
Layering elements were included among gossamer and jacquard fabrics, florals with tropical inspiration were featured and crystals, cardigan jackets, kimono-inspired garments and gowns floated down the runway, inspried by the “woman who takes something from every place she visits and makes it her own.”
Queen Mathilde certainly followed suit with the dictum of Giorgio Armani Privé’s collection and made this piece from the spring 2024 couture designs her own. The royal embraced modernity and contemporary coolness while still favoring summertime florals.
